Public Enemy: "Black Steel in the hour of Chaos"
Public Enemy, not only do I consider them to be the greatest Hip Hop group ever, but also the most important group in Hip Hop history. They don't make music like this any more, Hip Hop that not only made your head-nod in a primal fashion, but also made you mad, proud to be black, and motivated to get involved somehow in your community all in the same breath. Public Enemy, before Flava Flav embarrassingly cooned it up with bunch of wanna-be actresses on Vh1, was the reason that I find it important to be politically aware today. The concept of the group was brilliant really, Chuck D's lyricism coming out of your speakers as if he was preaching a fucking sermon, Flava Flav adding the comic relief to soften their edge for people who couldn't handle the truth, and that Bomb Squad produced sound that could make the biggest baddest man in a prison cell block piss himself in the fetal position. Chuck had it mastered, provide the sugar(great music) to the medicine(the message) so people wouldn't know they were getting healed.(learning something). Long live Public Enemy!!!!
