Throwback video.. Vanity: "Pretty Mess"

This is in honor of one of the women I had a crush on as a kid, one of the women who awakened a lecherous lust that still exists in Humanity F Critic till this day.(Shouts out to Sheila E and Lisa Lisa for starring in many of my preteen nocturnal emissions as well.) I know that Vanity has found Christ and looks down at her past, and this song isn't particularly the best song in the world, but you can't beat a song dedicated to the same substance that stained Monica Lewinsky's dress. I love this video because even though I'm sure they called themselves being subtle and tasteful, being that the topic of the song was male ejaculate, it definitely comes off as over the top and outright funny. But it got me to thinking, if I'm with a woman and say, "My bad, I didn't mean to get it all over your clothes!" and she replies, "No, it's a pretty mess.", I'm marrying her ass! That being said, this is one of the best songs about sperm ever.

I can not thank you enough for this song. When I was 13, I begged my parents for this song. After years of arguments with Moms about the gajillion "no-singing-white-boys" I had shown an interest in, she was starting to give it up and buy that Scritti Politti album already, so she bought the Vanity record happily ("she's the black girl, right?"). My otherwise cool dad, however, HATED it.

Ended up getting stolen from a party. God, I hate people.

This was one of those songs you heard as a kid where you knew they were saying something nasty (tee-hee-hee), but you weren't exactly sure what. And all you wanted in the world was to be grown, cute and fucking!

As always, thanks for the memories...

I remember her performance of that song on Soul Train. I knew all the words to it, but didn't know what she was singing about.

When my father heard me singing that song and imitating her in the bathroom mirror, he whopped my aiss..Never sung that song again.

I still have both solo albums, vanity 6 lp and all of vanity's singles. Of course it's all on vinyl. I have seen some on cassette and vinyl on ebay 4 those who wan't them again. I adore her and wish that her scare with ruining her body with crack did'nt cause her 2 give up her music and movie career. I think her best song by far is Undress from the movie Action Jackson which she also sang on an episode of the t v series Friday the 13th.
